Amanda Crafts, a computer teacher at Middle Township Middle School, was arrested in an alleged prostitution scheme involving a $1,250 casino robbery. The incident occurred when the victim met the women at a bar at a hotel resort in Atlantic City and was later taken to their room. In the room, the women stripped the victim down and physically restrained him to the bed. One of the suspects, Veda Engel, forced sexual acts on the victim and then made four separate Apple Pay transactions totaling $1,250 to her account while the other suspect held the victim down. The victim said the transactions were made without his consent in exchange for sexual acts.

Crafts was fired by the school district after her arrest. The school district released a statement on Oct. 19 acknowledging the arrest of a Middle Township teacher and confirming that the employee had been fired. The statement said that the safety and well-being of the students remain the highest priority. The superintendent of the school district, Stephanie DeRose, said that the responsibility is to protect the students, follow appropriate procedures, and ensure that those entrusted with caring for and educating the children meet the standards expected of them.

Crafts was released on Oct. 15 after being held for nearly a week. The state consented to her pretrial release, which requires her to check in with the court every other week. The other suspect, Veda Engel, works at SoFresh SoClean Commercial Cleaning in Ocean City, her attorney said. Engel has a history of prostitution-related charges, including one dating back to December, Breaking AC reported. She was also charged in the Oct. 9 incident.
